takeON LA present the following submission to partner with Australians In Film (AIF) to conduct regular 10 Day Programs open to Australians. These informative Programs will expose Attendees to the reality of working life in Los Angeles and will be conducted in ‘The City of Angels’.

Eager and emerging Australian talent need traction in the industry. takeON LA explain the fundamental reality of the LA market. takeON LA give the opportunity for one on one access to established, successful actors and industry professionals through Q and A time and will deliver a grounding experience of what to expect, first hand in gaining a foothold into the industry, the people, and the pathways to success.

In partnering with takeON LA, Australians In Film (AIF) continues to build on solid synergy partnerships, that build honest networking between two organizations, both working towards supporting Australian talent across the marketplace.

The takeON LA Program presents the chance for honest professional exchange, a blueprint and outline or template of how the LA connection works, and a map to the lay of the land.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

takeON LA presents a 10 day intensive program where attendees are exposed to the industry first hand. Attendees will be shown the potential of learning to take risks, to break away from self-doubt, limitation, inhibitions, habits and patterns, to discover the techniques that make it easier to understand and approach the industry.

The industry demands taking risks, the takeON LA Program addresses the doubt, and the unknown factors that will surface throughout the process when pursuing a career in the industry.

GOALS OF TAKEON LA

The program is aimed at instilling confidence in Attendees. This is a competitive, fast moving industry, with no tolerance for those not willing to take the blows delivered by agents, directors, producers and industry decision makers.

takeON LA work with Attendees to develop the skill and knowledge needed to survive in the LA environment.

We challenge Attendees to be bold in their choices, original in their ideas, and passionate in their pursuit of creative individuality while realising the path they are on requires navigating the obstacles the industry places in

their path.

takeON LA was established to propel more Australians in their careers in the mainstream.

takeON LA deliver a comprehensive approach to the industry, preparing Attendees for the competitive market of Los Angeles, explaining the fundamental problems faced by Australians wanting to break into the scene centres on knowing what to expect, what is expected from the people able to influence and direct their career, and who they meet and who decide their fate.

takeON LA Attendees will be exposed to other Australians who have made their mark on the industry, seasoned performers and professionals who have paid their dues. During the program Attendees will be privileged to hear their stories, their struggles, their set backs, and their successes, always grounded in determination to hit their goals.

takeON LA is active in developing a close and supportive relationship with its graduates, promoting reengagement through a whole range of activities.

takeON LA aims to encourage graduates to re-engage and contribute to maintaining support networks and mentoring other Australians coming into the industry by participating in the workshops and sessions.

takeON LA is the opportunity for actors, directors, producers and industry to network, keep on top of their game, and get in front of industry professionals they wouldn’t always have the chance to meet through normal channels.

The success of the program is measured by the achievements of the takeON LA graduates. Maintaining a lifetime’s career in front of the screen, behind the scenes or on stage demands remaining at the cutting edge and knowing how to achieve the chosen goals.

PRINCIPALS OF TAKEON LA

BEN PARKINSON

An experienced Casting Director both on the national and international scene and a recognised member of both CSA and CGA. Having run his own agency for over seventeen (17) years, working on major tent pole features, indi films, commercials and music industry projects, from Sydney to LA, New York and Europe, he continues to work placing Australian talent in front of the right people.

JOEY VIEIRA

Californian native, who was recently transplanted to Australia. Over twenty (20) years acting experience and knows, first hand what’s expected in Hollywood. Having been in over 200 commercials, his resume includes The Simpsons, The Shield, and Kitchen Confidential (with Bradley Cooper). Since moving to Australia he has worked on the feature San Andreas. Los Angeles was his home and he is delighted to be a mentor to those who want to take the leap. With 20 years in Hollywood as his background, he has the unique experience of understanding the intricacies of the US market, and in particular how it differs to Australia.

takeON LA is hoping to be supported and partnered with Australian In Film (AIF) for each of the programs.

This would include each participants in the program receiving a one (1) year membership to AIF.

As the No. 1 networking Organisation for Australians in entertainment, Australians In Film (AIF) is the ideal

networking tool for Aussie talent. Through teaming with takeON LA and working together to widen those networks, the benefits to Australians are, not only to survive, but to succeed in the Los Angeles market.

takeON LA will run a minimum of 4+ Programs for 2015/16 with a top of 20 Attendees per program, each

Attendee will receive a one (1) year membership to AIF as part of their program.

takeON LA will ensure all participants in the programs attend an AIF black tie event

EX: June intact – Heath Ledger Scholarship / Oct intact – AIF Awards

takeON LA will run several industry nights and social events for Attendees of the program. These events will be open to all AIF Members to attend and we encourage their participation.

takeON LA will include AIF – and their partners (ex: Virgin Australia) in all marketing material and collateral. NOTE: takeON LA is currently working with AIF to secure Virgin Australia as it travel partner.

takeON LA is in discussions with professional acting schools to partner in workshops. NOTE: These include:

Stella Adler, Brian Reise, Howard Fine.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ENROLMENT

takeON LA organizers will decide on acceptance of applicants into the program. Once accepted Attendees will be sent a formal Acceptance Correspondence via email, accompanied by a schedule of each day’s activities and what is expected.

TRAVEL

Airfares to the destination are at the discretion of the Attendee. Attendees are expected to be present on Day 1 for orientation and for each of the days programs for the 10 day duration.

ACCOMODATION / HOUSING

Securing accommodation for the length of the program will be at the discretion of the Attendee.

takeON LA is currently negotiating and working with partners and will supply recommendations.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO OBTAIN BEFORE I CAN DO THIS?

No formal qualifications are required attendees must be over 18. There is a two stage interview/audition process prior to being accepting in the program. Attendees should submit applications as early as possible to ensure their placement.

HOW MUCH WILL I HAVE TO PAY?

The cost of the 10 day program 2015/2016 is $4500. Airfares are up to the attendees to arrange and pay for separately. Attendees will be assisted in finding accommodation.

COULD YOU ADVISE ME ON THE INTERVIEW/AUDITION PROCESS?

After applying to the program and prior to being accepted Attendees will appear before the takeON LA

Principals in person or via Skype, to ensure their spot in the program.

CAN ANYONE APPLY TO DO THE TAKEON LA PROGRAM?

The program is open to all applicants over 18 years of age.

CAN I SPEAK TO PREVIOUS ATTENDEES AND ORGANISERS ABOUT THE PROGRAM?

Yes, anyone attending a program will be posting on our FaceBook page and Twitter feed. There will also be connection through the AIF membership that comes with each program.
